Pattern testing for 1 Puddle Lane

1 Puddle Lane Audrey Dress

When I first discovered PDF Pattern Tutorials it changed my world!  All of a sudden I had access to patterns that actually explained how to put them together stop by step and taught me different and sometimes a much better way to sew.

After a while you really get to love certain designers and follow them religiously, hanging out for a new pattern release.  That was how it was for me and 1 Puddle Lane.  I was then lucky enough to start testing for Ann.

The latest pattern test was a Dress Pattern for me; Wow was I excited to make something for me for a change and the Audrey Dress Pattern just looked beautiful.

Ann’s pattern goes from size 6 to 20 and A to DD cup  and you can just print out the size you need!  The pattern is priced at AUD $19.00 and is worth every penny.  It is the first dress that I have made myself that I will actually wear and not chop back up again.  I now have a gorgeous tailored dress and the skills you learn in altering the bodice to fit will help with any other patterns you may have sitting in your collection un-used.

The Toile (practice go) is the first step of making the dress for yourself and it is a very important step.  This will then show you if it is going to fit properly and what, if any adjustments you will need to make.  Ann’s blog http://1puddlelane.blogspot.com.au has some adjustment tutorials to help you with this step.

I had to take out some gaping in the front and make the bust just a little less pointy.  Ann’s help was great and I got the second Toile fitting properly.

Once you have the bodice right the rest of the dress just falls together so easily.  The final tricky bit is the invisible zip!  Ann’s instructions explain it really well but an invisible zipper foot will make this step much easier.  I popped down to my local Janome dealer and bought one for $30 and I can’t wait to practice some more with it and get those zips perfect.

The dress is released today and there will be a sew along starting on the first of December.  Check out her site for more details (Sew A Long) but I can highly recommend joining the group!  Ann will be in the group to give any advice you need and help with what, if any, alterations you will need to do for the fitting.  I’m going to join so I can make another.  It is such a fabulous dress to have in your wardrobe.
